The Chess Team from Salaskóli Victorious in Namibia
Children in the world championship team in grammar school chess have been victorious in competitions in Namibia where they are travelling. The team participated in the Namibian championships in grammar school chess as guests and won all seven of its opponents and received 27 winnings out of possible 28.
Patrekur Maron Magnússon won the individual competition where there were 17 competitors. Hrannar Baldursson, one of the team’s supervisors, writes about this and other fun things that the children have experienced in Namibia on his blogsite , http://don.blog.is/blog/don/.
The young world champions are in Namibia on an invitation from ICEIDA and the town of Kópavogur and has ICEIDA carried out a chess project in Namibia over the past few years in cooperation with the Icelandic Chess Association and Hrókurinn. The goal of the project is to raise interest in chess among children in grammar school.
