The Early Bird Catches the Worm (Þeir fiska sem róa) - Premiere of an Icelandic Documentary from Malawi
“The idea behind the documentary was to give a different and more personal picture of people in the developing countries than what Icelandic viewers are used to see. The small amount of material that comes from Africa often gives a monotonous picture and confirms the simple ideas people have of other parts of the world, ideas based on misconceptions. It is often forgotten that behind numbers concerning health and development are people made of flesh and blood.”
These are the words of Héðinn Halldórsson, a reporter and scriptwriter for the Icelandic documentary The Early Bird Catches the Worm (Þeir fiska sem róa) which was premiered on the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service on the 28th of October.
The documentary, which is a collaboration between ICEIDA and the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, portrays the family of Tausi and Matthew Nyirenda which lives in the fishermen village Zambo by Monkey Bay.
ICEIDA has worked with many fields in that area, such as fishing, education and health service.
The documentary was filmed in April 2007. Héðinn Halldórsson was the supervisor and Vilhjálmur Þór Guðmundsson administered the filming and the making of the documentary. The documentary will be distributed to Icelandic schools in the near future.
