An Ambulance Officially Delivered in Nicaragua

Hjálmar Jónsson, minister and board member of ICEIDA, recently handed-over a new ambulance to the Red Cross branch in the city of Camoapa in Nicaragua. The ambulance was handed-over during the first field trip of a representative from the board of ICEIDA and the General Director to Nicaragua but Iceland began development cooperation with this country, the poorest in Central-America, in 2006.

Among the first social projects in the country is supporting Maternal Houses in rural areas but such houses are built close to hospitals which serve big rural areas. The Maternal Houses are especially meant for women before and after the delivery, especially those who have risk pregnancies. The ambulance in Camoapa will come in handy for expectant mothers in the Maternal House who often need to go to the hospital in the area on a short notice.

To mark the deliverance of the ambulance a celebration was held at the Maternal House and speeches were given and girls performed national dances. In the absence of the catholic pastor, reverend Hjálmar said a prayer and everyone present recited Our Heavenly Father in their native tongue.
