New Country Directors in Four of ICEIDA´s Partner Countries
In four out of ICEIDA’s six partner countries the Country Director will be replaced this year. Three new Country Directors will start working, Geir Oddsson in Nicaragua, Stefán Jón Hafstein in Malawi and Tumi Tómasson who goes to Sri Lanka. Two Country Directors take positions and ICEIDA’s headquarters in Reykjavík, Ágústa Gísladóttir and Gísli Pálsson.
The Country Directors supervise all of ICEIDA’s projects in the respective partner country and run the country office which doubles as an embassy of Iceland. New Country Directors start working in Malawi, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Nicaragua.
The first change of a Country Director took place at the beginning of April when Stefán Jón Hafstein took the position of the Country Director in Malawi from Skafti Jónsson. Around the same time Tumi Tómasson, the present principal of the United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme, took the position of the Country Director in Sri Lanka from Árni Helgason who will become the Country Director in Uganda. Ágústa Gísladóttir, who has been the Country Director in Uganda will take the position of a Project Manager concerning fisheries at ICEIDA’s headquarters in Reykjavík. Geir Oddsson, who has held that position for one and a half years, will take the position of the Country Director in Nicaragua in the summer from Gísli Pálsson, who will come home and take the position of a Project Manager for social projects at the headquarters.
