Five Interns Heading to Developing Countries
20.5.2008
Five interns will shortly head for five months´stay Iceland’s partner countries and carry out development work. They were hired from a group of over 150 applicants for the positions. ICEIDA has hired interns from 2004 to work in the partner countries.
During these five months, from July until December, the inters get the opportunity to familiarize themselves with ICEIDA’s activities in the field which among other things includes data gathering as well as preparing and implementing projects. In that way they get practical guidance and training in conditions of the developing countries.
The university students that were chosen this year are Þóra Bjarnadóttir, a Master’s student in development studies who goes to Nicaragua, Ásdís Bjarnadóttir, MSc in Development Studies who goes to Malawi, Nanna Rún Ásgeirsdóttir, a Master’s student in international relations who will be in Mozambique, Guðrún Birna Jóhannsdóttir, a Master’s student in development studies and international relations who goes to Uganda and Katrín Magnúsdóttir, a Master’s student in anthropology who goes to Namibia.
Like last year, the position of an intern in Sri Lanka was not advertised this year because of the conflicts in the country.
