Project Title: MOZ - Institutional Capacity Development for Sustainable Aquaculture in Mozambique
Short Description:

This project includes the capacity and ability building of the Aquaculture department within the MoF and involves management, policy making and supervision.

In 2009, the project was merged into "Assistance to the Fisheries Sector in Mozambique: co-financed by Norway and Iceland (2009-2013)"

Long Description

The overall objective is to increase food security and socio-economic development in Mozambique through institutional capacity building of the Institute of Aquaculture of Ministry of Fisheries in planning, policy, managing, monitoring aquaculture activities.

Specific Objectives

· Increase the human capacity within the Institute of Aquaculture

· Development of a curriculum for a professional training programme in freshwater tropical fish farming to be run at Escola de Pesca

· Development of an aquaculture short course for extension officers and reference farmers

· Improve access to aquaculture literature in Institute of Aquaculture, Escola de Pesca and technical colleges in Mozambique

· Development of Institute of Aquaculture database for small scale aquaculture management

· Establishment of an Aquaculture Institution

Environment This project, through enhancement of human capacity at Institute of Aquacultureaims to address the availability of adequate training of public sector, staff and farmers. It will also contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact of commercial farming activities through enabling of the Ministry of Fisheries, INAQUA in better management of aquaculture in Mozambique
